Does Valley Farm Market Sells Beef "Strife"

Vernon Family Farm is located on 33 conserved acres in Newfields, NH along the Piscassic River and route 87. Our family and our crew love being able to provide an easier way to eat local year-round, while also inviting you to experience life on the farm.

WE'RE A ONE-STOP-SHOP for local food

We sell a variety of our own nonGMO, pastured chicken plus a variety of other grass-fed and pastured meats, fruit, vegetables, mushrooms, sauces, spices, and more. We are grateful that our farm store can make a larger local impact by supporting approximately 30 other local vendors, small businesses, and farms.

We continuously strive to reduce waste, improve our regenerative practices, and create community events that bring locals together, while eating finger-licking good, local chicken.

MEET Our Farmers

Our crew and family members play an important role in making Vernon Family Farm what it is today. We couldn't do it without their energy, teamwork, and brainpower. We are thankful to have employees who enjoy working hard, getting dirty, and manage to always have time to engage in meaningful conversations with our customers and our children.

Jeremiah & Nicole Vernon | Owners

Jeremiah Vernon is a 10th generation New Hampshire native. He grew up in New London, NH on his family farm on Pingree Rd. and has always had a love for animals and the outdoors. He graduated from Proctor Academy and received his Bachelor of Science from Bates College, earning a degree in Biology. Post-college, Jeremiah worked on Nezinscot Farm in Turner ME, where he fell in love with farming and his wife, Nicole Vernon.

He has farmed land on the Seacoast of NH for over 10 years. He is passionate about the land his family owns now on the Seacoast, which happens to be in the same school district where his wife teaches and children are schooled.

Nicole Vernon grew up in Syracuse, NY and met Jeremiah while teaching Spanish at the Hyde School. She now teaches Spanish at Exeter High School. Nicole first fell in love with their property when running the cross country trails with the runners she coached. Nicole is passionate about language and culture. She enjoys traveling and teaching her students and children the importance of being multilingual.

She and Jeremiah are raising their children bilingually just like Nicole was raised by her Polish parents. Nicole's responsibilities on the farm continue to grow each summer as her girls run further out into the field to explore. Nicole is the voice of VFF's social media. You can also find her in the fields, helping out in the store, and keeping bees.

Vernon Farm Girls

OWNERS IN TRAINING

Magnolia, Indigo, and Pingree are the farm girls. They enjoy eating veggies, looking for insects, speaking Spanish, holding chicks, driving the truck and tractor with their papa, and seeing their friends every Friday at Vernon Kitchen Rotisserie Night.

Melissa Brennan

VERNON KITCHEN CHEF

Melissa is a graduate of the UNH Nutrition & Dietetics Program, and she has a dual-degree in EcoGastronomy. Her interest in how the food system affects the nutritious value of food and the environment introduced her to interning at the local farmers markets with Seacoast Eat Local, where she fell in love with farming. Melissa uses her knowledge of nutrition and sustainable food systems to manage Vernon Kitchen products. She works in the kitchen making broth, soup, pot pies, and executing the prep work needed for weekly rotisserie chickens and our other amazing seasonal events. When she's not racing around the kitchen singing along to classic rock, she's probably hiking a trail somewhere in the NH woods!

Haley-Holland.jpg

Haley Holland

FARM HAND

Regularly described as a bull in a china shop, Haley grew up in Hampton, NH. She recently graduated from the University of Vermont, obtaining a degree in Natural Resources, although she admittedly spent more time skiing around the Mad River Valley than back on campus attending class. She was born in a blizzard after 28 hours of child labor and continues to live each day with comparable vigor and strife. Her favorite part about working for VFF is being a member of a crew that is constantly working toward increasing efficiency because they recognize how even the smallest improvement contributes to a happier and healthier environment.

Alex ChasE

PRODUCTION MANAGER

Alex (aka Ricky Bear) is locally grown, and recently discovered his passion for watching animals happily munch on fresh grass. As a student at UNH, he learned about the damage that poorly managed, big agriculture can cause for everybody on this Earth. He believes that the combination of bicycles, and community-driven farms can save the world. If you want to make his day, bike on over to drop off a locally-raised pulled pork sandwich around lunchtime.

TERESA DOWNey

MARKETS MANAGER

Teresa grew up in rural Pennsylvania, with roots from Tennessee farming grandparents. She has always had a passion for growing things. Her friends say there is always something growing in Teresa's life, from plants to ferments to children. She is a mother of four adult children whom she homeschooled. She has been gardening her entire life, she is an herbalist and farmer. She raises certified organic culinary and medicinal herbs, edible and cut flowers, blends herbal teas with her own NH grown herbs and makes flower spreads from the edible flowers. She is passionate about local agriculture, local food, and sustainable systems for the planet and people.

You will find her either in the store sharing local food with the customers or the gardens educating folks about growing food. In her time away from the store and garden she'll be hiking the forests, paddling the kayak, or round the campfire sharing time with friends, family, and her border collie, Bree.

EMMA Shapiro-Barnard

FARMERS MARKET, WHOLESALE & DISTRIBUTION

Emma was four when she told her father, "We need a cow." Though her family did not wind up getting a cow, Emma did help raise chickens and a few pigs with her three sisters. Growing up sledding with their chickens and enjoying food from local farms was the seed to many of Emma's passions today. Emma recently graduated from College of the Atlantic with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Ecology. At COA, Emma found great excitement and passion for understanding the ecological, social, and political dimensions of our food systems. At the farm, Emma can be found working in the field, selling at the farmers market, or working with wholesale customers. In all roles she is committed to strengthening the links between these dimensions of our food system here on the NH Seacoast. When she's not at the farm, Emma enjoys spending time by the ocean or in her pottery studio playing with clay.

Stephanie Borovicka

BOOKKEEPER

Stephanie was raised in NH and has spent most of her life there. She graduated from UNH with a degree in Biology and worked in the biotechnology industry for many years doing research and process development. While taking some time off to raise her two children, she found a new passion in becoming closer and more connected to where her and her family's food came from. She began working for a local farm where she and her family were CSA members and has been working with farms ever since. She can often be found with 10 different spreadsheets open and a pile of receipts trying to keep things organized and within budget! In her free time she loves going to the beach, skiing and hiking with her family.

WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS

We do what we do with many helping hands. Let us know if you'd like to help out at an event, in the wildflower meadow, or another farm task—there are so many ways to help out at your local farm.

As our farm dreams continue, we look forward to bringing more community and connection through pastured chicken.
